Changes in Apprentice

The move to the new high school means that many changes are occurring. One of them is the transition of the class called “Apprentice”. “Apprentice” gives students class credit and allows them to go to Jefferson Elementary, Washington Learning Center, or the new middle school. Students taking “Apprentice” have the opportunity to be in a classroom and work with younger students. Some of the things that high schoolers get to work on with the students include everyday classroom work, art, STEM, and physical education.
The biggest change is the time it takes to transport back and forth instead of being able to walk across the street. “We have made it work the best we can.” Many apprentice students have said they wished they had “more time” with their elementary students. The required transit takes away almost 20 minutes from their class time. “We have 32 seniors currently enrolled in the program but placing the students was no problem at all- the teachers welcome the extra set of hands in their classrooms,” said the program leader, Mrs. Longtin.
