Students at NUHS can enroll in an elective pastry and design class for a single semester after completing the basic foods class. They learn safe kitchen practices and cooking methods as well as food presentation and serving.

After studying methods and recipes they are able to bake foods like the one shown above.

After learning methods and recipes they can bake foods themselves, each unit focuses on a different category. Every person is able to participate and plan their recipe.

“I don’t want it to drastically impact your grades when it wasn’t something you were able to prepare for.” pastry and design teacher Ashley Schneider said.

Pastry and design, along with other food classes at NUHS, educates students on valuable skills and choices with a hands-on style of learning.

NUHS teacher Ashley Schneider has recently taken over these classes this 2023-2024 school year. She has transformed the format of the class into something more hands-on and effective. Students are now actively creating and learning recipes through their own personal experiences.
