Senior guard Alex Lund launches a three-pointer in practice.

The New Ulm boys basketball team started practice last Monday, November 21st. Head Coach Adam Tyhurst, in his second year with the Eagles, began the season with a grueling practice schedule for his team. For the first week, players practiced from 6 to 7:30 AM every morning and 3:30 to 5:30 PM after school. “It was tough, especially the early mornings and the conditioning, but that’s part of basketball and getting in shape,” senior forward Cooper Yackley said of the first week.

The Eagles will be trying to improve on their 4-24 record from last season. Guards Dalton Foley and Spencer Landsteiner graduated last spring, leaving two important starting spots open. “We’re going to miss Spencer’s basketball knowledge and experience and Dalton’s leadership,” Alex Lund explained, “but we have a great, young core of guys coming back and ready to step up.” Key returners for New Ulm are Cooper Yackley and junior Connor Foley.

Boys basketball is scheduled to open the season on Thursday, December 1st in Blue Earth. The home opener is set for this Saturday, December 3rd at 3:15 in the High School gym.
