The Tennis season has recently come underway with their first practice starting March 27, previously delayed by unanticipated snowfall. The first few practices took place at the Vogel Fieldhouse the week of the 27th, using 2 of the courts for practice, ¨The recreation center was asking about $30.00 per hour for each court that the Tennis Team would use,¨ Mr Engeldinger said.

The week of April 4 had been difficult for getting great practice in as the wind conditions had been over 20 miles per hour at certain points. The team had to adapt to these conditions as they would mainly work on shorter distance simulations of matches and control of the ball.  With these conditions, it allowed the team to practice in tough conditions and with it being early in the season, it could help them later on be more fluent and consistent if there is adversity with weather.

The New Ulm Eagles Tennis first home meet against Mankato West occurred on April 4, ultimately losing 5-2, with wins from singles players No. 3 Gideon Heins and No. 4 Ian Schotzko. Although the New Ulm Eagles ultimately lost, it was a good start as it gave them competition and realistic conditions.
