Senior assassin puts seniors on high alert
Senior Assassin has become a big part of the senior class at New Ulm High School.
The game is played by giving every senior who wants to participate a target they have to eliminate with a water gun. The only way to stay safe is by wearing goggles.
Nobody can eliminate anyone on school grounds during the school day, at sporting events, or at work unless they are clocked out.
There are also Purge days, where anyone can get anyone, and wearing goggles does not keep you safe.Â
The game is played using the app Splashin to assign everyone a target and make setting up the game easier. Because of this, seniors are being kept on their toes and finding ways to stay in the game.
Senior Lauren Schmiesing has already eliminated two of her targets.
She explained how she got them both out by planning ahead and waiting for the right moment.
“I parked kind of far away and then waited for them to come out… and neither of them had their goggles on, and then I just ran after them and got them,” Lauren said.
She said both of her targets were outside without goggles, which made it easier to eliminate them.
Schmiesing also talked about how stressful purge days can be.
“Purge days are pretty scary, like you go anywhere and you’re like, I could get out right now.”
Many seniors agree that purge days are more stressful since anyone could be coming for them.
Senior Maddi Olson shared what happened when she was eliminated by senior Brody Nordby while on her walk.
She noticed it was suspicious when a familiar vehicle kept driving by her.
“I had seen Brody’s Jeep come by me a first time, and I kind of thought to myself, shoot, I should get my goggles,” Maddi said.
She didn’t have her goggles with her, and in a second, they were running towards her. She tried to run away but ended up getting out and had to buy back into the game.
After buying back in, Olson said staying safe has been the hardest part.
“Anytime you go somewhere, you are just like, oh shoot, I need my goggles, and it kind of just gets annoying.”
Senior Assassin has made the school more exciting for seniors as their time at New Ulm High School comes to an end.
Seniors are constantly watching for their targets while also trying not to get eliminated themselves.
Even with rules about school, sports, and work, the game happens in neighborhoods and around town.
With purge days and crazy eliminations, seniors are always on the lookout, hoping to stay in the game as long as possible.Â
