Exchange Students in Hockey

Something new for the coaches: having three new players on the team, three foreign exchange students who never played hockey before, and even more, who never learned how to skate!

It may seem crazy but it’s a great experience for them, something new to learn that they will bring back home with a lot of stories to tell.

“It’s true that it can be hard sometimes because we never skated before so we had to learn the basics while trying to do what the other girls were doing during practice,” Jule Engelhardt said. “But despite all of that it’s still really cool because we’ve met a lot of nice people, we’ve built friendships which is really hard when you are an exchange student, and we’ve been able to experience being in a sports team, supporting each other, having fun, and all the moments that go with it!”

The three of them play in the JV team, Valeria and Pauline as wings and Jule as center. The coaches and the other players are really comprehensive and supportive. They love going on the ice, trying their best, and being cheered by their teammates, just like they cheer when they are watching.

It’s also a good experience for the coaches and the other players. They get to learn about three different cultures and make new friends around the world.
