There are approximately over 100 billion stars in our galaxy, the Milky Way alone, and on Tuesday, Oct. 17 the newly founded astronomy club run by Mrs. Brock and Ms. Hoefker got to take a glimpse at a handful of stars found in the cloudy night sky.
That night at 7:35 pm in room 124, the group members that came had prepared cookies and hot chocolate to start out their night before stargazing. Five to six telescopes were carried to an area outside of the football field to start, then the group traveled over by the greenhouse to get different views and to see if there were darker spots to observe from.
Astronomy club members are fired up about the new organization. “I’m really excited for Astronomy club, I can’t wait for it to actually pick up and for us to have more meetings, I think that it’s a great way for people to connect and look at the stars,” senior Jayda Goold said.
There were quite a few stars that were seen in the sky that night even though it was cloudy.
More meetings will be held in the future where they will get to learn more about how a telescope works, the objects in and around our solar system, the history and future of the universe, and more.
