Every year, the New Ulm FFA chapter puts on multiple philanthropy events. These events include the corn drive, blood drive, and food drive. The food drive kicked off on March 20th and was scheduled to run until March 30th, but has been extended to go on until April 7th. The extension is a result of the blood drive being scheduled before the food drive this year, when it is typically the other way around. According to Ag teacher Mr. Nelson, our FFA chapter’s food drive usually brings in anywhere from 500 to 800 pounds of food to the New Ulm food shelf. At the end of the food drive, FFA officers or placement seminar students box up the food and bring it to the food shelf. “The New Ulm chapter believes that it is important to develop members to be premier leaders and quality citizens. It is important for us to be civic-minded and give back to the community,” said Mr. Nelson. There are lots of awesome prizes from the National Guard, including sweatshirts and gift cards, so round up some food items and bring them in for your chance to win and, more importantly, to help people in need.
