NUHS Students take on MRE chopped challenge

NUHS students in Mrs. Trahm’s food class last Thursday had a MRE chopped challenge.

Students had to try to make an MRE, or meal-ready-to-eat, into a gourmet meal and make it into a meal with a main dish, a side dish, and possibly a dessert or a drink.

The MRE’s were provided by Sergeant Engel, and Engel was also a judge along with Sergeant Hage.

Students had 40 minutes to make their dishes and present them to the judges.

“I thought it was enough time,” junior Braylon Hoel said. “I finised my dish way before the forty-minute mark.”

“I thought it was really cool to learn about what soldiers eat out in the field,” junior Jett Volk said. ” And also how they cook the meals when they’re out there and also to learn about careers in the national guard and the opportunities within the national guard.”

The judges based their scores on taste, use of the MRE, and presentation.

Sergeant Engel also informed students about careers in the National Guard as well as in the Army
