High stakes showdown at TCU
New Ulm Track Heads to TCU

On Monday, May 11, the Eagles headed to TCU to participate in a track meet. This was the last meet until the conference, and athletes really wanted to do their best because the top three in each event get to attend the conference at New Ulm High School on Tuesday, May 19. Kaden Schaefer said, “I really want to get my PR because I’m right on the verge of that 3rd spot for discus.”

There were a lot of athletes who ended up getting their PRs, and coaches had to spend some time working through the new PR changes and seeing which athletes would be attending the conference and which would not. But the season is not over yet. It is mandatory that track athletes continue to go to practice until May 19th, and jersey turn-in is on Wednesday, May 20th. Also, track athletes who are not attending the meet have to help out at the conference events.

Ever since the TCU track meet ended, some people who know they’re not competing in the conference have stopped going to practice, which has been frustrating for the rest of the team.

Lendale Dunmars said, “It sucks seeing hardly anyone at practice and knowing a lot of the people that aren’t showing up, can show up.” The coaches have also emailed track athletes that practice is mandatory until May 19 due to all the absences.
