The seniors reflect on their high school experience
Senior Introspective

The horizon for New Ulm High School’s Class of 2026 is drawing nearer. For seniors, the end of a 12-year journey can weigh heavily on their minds. Graduation is a big leap, one that brings excitement, uncertainty, and a lot of reflection.

For most students, school has been a constant. The same hallways, the same bell schedule, the same familiar faces. Letting go of that routine and stepping into something unknown can be intimidating.

What are you most nervous about as graduation gets closer? Senior Carson Boe reflected. “I think it’s the idea of not knowing exactly what comes next. In high school, everything is laid out for you. After graduation, it’s all on you to make decisions and figure things out.”

Despite the nerves, there are plenty of positives to graduation. Seniors are looking forward to more freedom, new opportunities, and experiences beyond the walls of New Ulm High School.

What are you most excited about after high school? Senior Henry Albrecht said, “I’m excited to be more independent and to explore who I am outside of school. I want to meet new people, experience new places, and start building the life I’ve imagined for myself.”

As they prepare to move on, many seniors are also thinking about what they’ll carry with them from their time in high school.

What is something you learned in high school that you’ll carry with you forever? Carson Boe said, “I learned that hard work really does pay off, and that it’s okay to ask for help when you need it. Teachers, friends, and coaches can make a huge difference when you let them support you.”

With the end of the year in sight, the Class of 2026 is already looking back and thinking about the students who will follow in their footsteps.

What advice do you have for younger students? Senior Addison Olson said, “Don’t wish high school away. Get involved, try new things, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. These four years go by faster than you think, so make the most of them.”

As graduation approaches, New Ulm High School’s seniors stand at the edge of a new chapter. They’re nervous, excited, and reflective, but most of all, they’re ready to take the next step into the future they’ve been working toward since kindergarten.
