With the spring sports season coming around the corner, New Ulm Eagles baseball starts up again with high expectations.

“We have a lot of guys returning this year, and I think we should be successful this year, as long as the guys put their head down and work hard. When we work, anything is possible,” said Coach and alumnus JT Hoffman.

The Eagles will be returning with many familiar faces. The Eagles have 9 seniors this year and multiple juniors with varsity experience.

Senior Zach Hubbard said that it feels good coming from basketball, where there was only 1 senior, and “I think that that makes us a stronger team.”

This week during practice, the varsity team went down to the batting cages and participated in a competition called live at bats, where a pitcher and a batter simulate a real at-bat during a game, with the catcher calling balls and strikes.

“Those lights are pretty bright in your eyes, but I like it, it gets you ready for the season,” Hubbard said.

The New Ulm Eagle boys have a scrimmage in Albany on Monday, March 30, and their first game is at home on April 7 against Mound Westonka.
