New Ulm’s track and field team will have new leadership this season, with a new head coach stepping in to guide the program and focus on a structured, exciting season.

Although the season has not officially started yet, the coach has already been working with athletes during after-school lifting sessions, helping them build strength and prepare for the challenges and meets ahead. With previous connections to kids in track, football, and soccer, he can further the team chemistry.

Coach Lundgren aims to maintain a structured practice throughout the season and plans to oversee all practices, while still continuing to help the throwers and pole vaulters this year. “We want to give them the time they deserve to go to their events. That’s the challenge for us as coaches,” Lundgren said.

Athlete Jamison Portner expresses his feelings about the upcoming season, calling it exciting, and looks forward to his senior season. He also expressed his liking for the new head coach and has liked Lundgren since he started coaching the football program.

As the season creeps up, and the first event is on March 20, athletes are excited to compete with each other and a new supportive leader.
