After graduating 8 seniors, the New Ulm Eagles softball team begins tryouts to rebuild for the upcoming season.
Head coach Kristi Andersen Loose said, “The girls are the ones who actually have to adjust and figure out how they fit into a leadership role.”
The girls work hard as the tryouts have begun showing their skills to the coaches and future varsity members. Each coach is determining which players they need on their team, then taking the next step to determine positions needed.
Starting catcher, Gracie Baker, said everyone should try to be the best they can be on and off the field. She said everyone should hustle and cheer, as Coach Andersen Loose watches for players who do.
Each player is under pressure as everyone is competing for a spot on the team. Baker and Lauren Schmeising are the only players on the team with guaranteed positions, as they had varsity spots last year.
Coach Andersen Loose said returning players should set the tone for energy; however, all the leadership doesn’t necessarily have to fall entirely on them.
