The high school is looking to get new projectors or smart boards for the next year because the current ones are outdated.

To start the process of choosing new smart boards or projectors, they are demoing a few in classrooms to get some data on what the teachers and students think of smart boards and projectors. English teacher, Mr. Van Leeuwe demoed a TV style smart board that was similar to a large touch screen TV.

When asked what Mr. Van Leeuwe thought of the boards he said it was “interactive” and “that’s nice because these projectors don’t.”

The touchscreen feature seemed to be an upgrade. “They didn’t ever work super well when they first got installed,” Mr. Van Leeuwe said. These were some of the positives of the new TV style smartboards, but there were a couple of concerns.

Some concerns about the TV style smartboards were the whiteboard space question.

“I don’t know if they’re going to take the whiteboard off to mount the new one,” Mr. Van Leeuwe said.

Mr. Van Leeuwe said this would lose him a couple feet of whiteboard space when the board wasn’t being used.

Lastly, Mr. Van Leeuwe said there were some technical difficulties with it.”It’s really hard to get out of something when it’s in full-screen mode,” he said.

A student, Brady Seidl, was sitting towards the back of Mr. Van Leeuwe’s class while Mr. Van Leeuwe was demoing the board and was asked about his thoughts on the potential new board.

“It looked a little clearer, just cause it was not a projector and an actual screen,” Seidl said.

When asked about the whiteboard space concern, Brady said, “No, I think being able to use the whiteboard and have a projector is better than, like, just a big tablet.”
