After a successful 19-9 season for the New Ulm girls basketball team, they had high hopes of making it to the section championship at Gustavus yet again this season.  Following a thriller against Mankato West, which the ladies won 75-73, New Ulm secured the third seed in the playoffs and was awarded a first-round matchup against Hutchinson.

The first-round game against Hutchinson was a great game, with the Eagles winning 85-41. This win gave the girls a guaranteed second-round game against Jordan. Following a tough loss to Jordan in late January, the team was ready to buckle down and fight for a big playoff win.

Senior Jordan Boettger said, “We knew that Jordan would be a close matchup for us and that we would really need to work together and play well. It was an emotional loss for all of us, but especially for the seniors who have been playing together since the beginning.”

With this loss, ending the 2025-2026 season for the ladies, comes a big gap to fill for the team, with five seniors graduating this year, including 3 of the 5 starters.

Freshman Leah Brustad said, “The seniors we’re losing this year will be some big shoes to step into, but we have some younger girls that will be moving up to take on bigger roles and key players that will be back from injury as well.”

Next year may be challenging for the ladies; however, the young talent is exciting to look forward to.
