NUHS Students raced snowmobiles at the River Valley Dutchman Snowmobile Club Hillclimb on February 7 to support local snowmobile trails.
Senior Logan Platz and other NUHS student Tate Iasacson went head-to-head in a side-by-side drag race up a hill for a trophy. People race for fun; some are more competitive than others. “I lost every time, I had good fun though cause it was something different,” said Logan.

Student Tate Isaacsoon 26′ and former student Carson Dulas 25′ had better luck as they won their class and got to compete in the king of the hill race to see who had the fastest snowmobile. Carson was excited that he won the king of the hill on his new Polaris 850 XCR.
The event had a good turnout because it was the first time in two years that it had happened due to a lack of snow. Logan Platz states his frustration,” I bought a dam snowmobile, I’m gonna ride it,” which is the attitude lots of racers had because of low snowfall in past years. This year is different as the Snowmobile club made snow to host the event.
Riding snowmobiles is popular at NUHS because of the joy it brings kids in the long winter months. In the past, students brought snowmobiles to school for a day. This has not happened since 2023 because of low snow totals.
“It would have been cool this year if we rode snowmobiles to school at least once,” said Logan.
Snowmobiling means “good times” and an “adrenaline rush with the guys.” Many NUHS students raced, and lots of friends were there to cheer them on and help with race preparation.
