Experience is our New Ulm High School gymnastics Team’s strength

The gymnastics team is fortunate to have all of its returning varsity gymnasts, except for Jocelyn Sellner, who graduated in 2025.

When it comes to varsity, you need one all-arounder. It’s a requirement, but they’re lucky enough to have more than one. They have three main options, who are also their three seniors: Avarey Sellner and Sophia Berger, who both attend the New Ulm Public, along with Alaina Blomberg, who attends Cathedral High School.

“So in that aspect, I mean, I’m really fortunate for that,” said Coach Alyssa, who is one of the assistant coaches.

The team’s goal every year is to win the conference championship.

They also aim to have individual participants make it to the state championships. They have been named all-academic gold for around eight years running, and they hope to maintain that average of around 3.75, Coach Alyssa said.

“90% of the girls I’ve been coaching since they were three,” Coach Alyssa said

When they reach the training team level within the club, Coach Alyssa begins working with them. This group is somewhat unique; many were three or four years old when they didn’t have coaches. Alyssa coached some of those younger training team members and parent-taught children.

With each flip and tumble, the gymnasts develop their movement skills and discover inner strength and grace. Their dedication and passion will only grow throughout the season.
