Eagles switch to Under Armour

The New Ulm Eagles Athletics have gotten new jerseys and uniforms for most sports this year.

There were many different reasons why the high school got new jerseys, including the cost, not having the same brand, and the jerseys getting old.

“So the intent was to buy all new uniforms,” NUHS AD Mr. Neubarth said. “That creates the most purchasing power. The more you spend, the more you get. Instead of spreading it out over five years, we buy them all at once. We go through one company, and they give us the best deal. And the best deal that was offered to us was the Under Armour deal.”

With the new jersey, one of the benefits is that JV and varsity now have the same jerseys, so for the athletes who play both teams, they don’t have to have multiple jerseys.

“So, as someone’s in a sport, there might be a situation where they’re playing two halves of JV, for basketball example, and one half of varsity,” Neubarth said. “Instead of going to the locker room, having to switch, they have the exact uniform, as long as it’s not a duplicate number.”

Even though the Eagles have mostly transitioned to Under Armour, there are still a few sports that have smaller brands because Under Armour doesn’t offer uniforms for their sports.

“Not everyone’s getting Under Armour. Some sports don’t. Cheerleading Under Armour doesn’t make a cheer uniform. Under Armour does not make a gymnastics leotard,” Neubarth said.
