On Monday, October 20, the Eagles’ volleyball team honored its seniors during the last home game at New Ulm High School. They competed against Redwood Valley High School, who have a record of 11-15.

The seniors take in their last moments on their home court with their teammates. “I got emotional stepping onto the floor for the last time,” said Lauren Schmiesing. “It’s crazy to think it’s my last time taking the floor with my teammates.”

The game started with the Eagles coming out hot, taking an 8-point lead in the first set. Despite their best efforts, they fell short in the first set. They fought hard but continued to fall short in the final two sets.

Senior night is a specific night to honor the seniors and their commitment to their sport. The volleyball coach, Cristine Skoglund, said, “Senior night is a celebration of the senior volleyball players and their accomplishments.”

Each senior has their own board with a picture of them throughout the years of them playing their sport, which sits in the entrance of the gym.

The Eagles now go on to play the Marshall Tigers, who rank number six in the state according to MaxPreps. Earlier in the year, the Eagles lost in three sets.

Their next game could potentially be their last game of the season in a win-or-go-home situation. Coach Skogland said no matter what happens, “I am looking forward to the great athletes coming up and to continuing to progress the volleyball program.”

The Eagles end the regular season with 6-15, which is an improvement from the 5-20 season last year. The Eagles will fight the Tigers on October 23.
