Two new math teachers, Becker and Jackson, are welcomed into the 2025-2026 school year, joining the district and beginning their first year of teaching in New Ulm High School.
Over the summer, two math teachers had moved, making only 3 math teachers. The addition of the new teachers shows the school’s commitment to having strong academic programs and good connections between the staff and students.
“I had not had a lot of great experiences in the school that I grew up in, and I thought it was important to make a better connection with students so that they can have a better experience than I did,” Becker said.
Both new additions to the math apartment are excited to make a positive impact on the students and try to have them have a good experience. They say it’s good to have connections with the students and help them grow academically and personally.
They hope to make a classroom environment where students feel safe and comfortable asking questions and feel supported along the way. Both said strong connections between relationships with their students are just as important as the teaching.
“I would say student connections are my favorite part about teaching, and I had really good teachers growing up that inspired me”, Jackson said.
Jackson played soccer while in college and had to balance her homework with her sport. It can be challenging, and many obstacles can get in the way. Some of the classes during college can also take time and effort to accomplish.
Time management is big in teaching, and college is a start to learning how to manage your time.
To manage lesson planning and grading, Becker said, “I use my prep time and I make sure that I take stuff home and meet with my department and use my resources.”
