New Ulm FFA members participated in the corn drive on Oct. 10th to raise money for Camp True Friends.

During this fundraiser, FFA members had the opportunity to meet and talk with local farmers. Each Group was given a box of food bags to give to the farmers they met. Each food bag was filled with one bottled water, one small bag of chips, one rice cripsy, and a few small pieces of chocolate candy.

Ms. Covington, one of the New Ulm FFA directors, shares a recap of the corn drive. Covington said, “We were just shy of $24,000 that we raised, but we still have some donations coming in. We also had a slight change in timing this year. We started the corn drive at lunch instead of at the beginning of the day, but we still were really successful despite the few hours we lost.”

This year, FFA had 17 groups work together and get donations. Most members were able to get a pickup truck and a trailer/wagon that farmers could dump into. Over 60 FFA members participated in the corn drive!

Tate Issacson was one of the drivers for a group and shares what he experienced on the corn drive. Issacson said, “It was a good day to find farmers in the field. I was able to get a trailer from my family that would hold a good amount of corn. We were able to find enough farmers to make a few trips to the co-ops.”
