The New Ulm High School boys soccer team made history at the New Prague stadium against the Worthington Trojans on Oct. 14. by winning the section 2AA championship and becoming state contenders.
“Winning feels great,” head coach Tim Plocher said. “I only lost 2 players (of 11) that were starters from last year, so I knew going into the season that we were going to be contenders.”
After coming short 0-1 in the first half, the Eagles’ senior captain Jackson Ocampo took back the crown in the second half with a goal and a successful penalty kick to make the final score 2-1.
Even though they won, it was continuously raining and cold throughout the game. Despite the weather, the Eagles pushed through to beat the Trojans. Senior captain Daniel Brownfield said, “It was so cold out there, I was literally freezing.”
