Volleyball intramurals is a competitive week at NUHS. Eight Teams of students get together and fight to win the court. All the teams meet in the gym at NUHS at 8 p.m. every night starting on Monday, Oct 17, and ending Thursday, Oct 30.
The first two nights consist of playing to determine which team is in which seed. This is decided by Mr. Mans, A Student Council Advisor, and his spreadsheet.
“I have this handy dandy spreadsheet that’s from the pool play from the first two days,” Mans said. “It keeps track of their scores. If there’s a tie, it will sort those ones out and then it will go by how many points they actually scored, which creates a ranking for Pool one and Pool two. And basically Pool one, the top seed, plays the bottom seed of Pool two and vice versa with the other side.”

Mr Mans and Mr. Nelson, NUHS Student Council Advisors, have worked to put this all together. Mr. Mans does the spreadsheet, and Mr. Nelson is there to help set up and keep everyone in check. ”
Mans’ spreadsheets are complex.
Student Council Class President Kaylee Evans said, “Mans, Nelson said he doesn’t understand how your spreadsheet works. I tried to help him, but I didn’t understand it either.”
For the Volleyball intramural teams, students must form a team of six to eight students and have a team name ready two weeks before the start.
“Me, Ryan Rathmann, Genesis Rabe, Braylon Hoel, Kingston Haimes, Colin McAlpine, and Carter Bronstad are all on a team,” Senior Avarey Sellner said. “We have a group chat with all of our friends, and it’s called Little Lads, so we just went with that,” Avarey said.
The third night is elimination night: teams played against each other, and whoever lost didn’t move on to the last night for the semi-final and championship games.
I followed the Little Lads through their game on Wednesday, Oct. 29. They played the Sendy Spikers. The Little Lads beat the Sendy Spikers, eliminating them from the rest of the tournament. The Sendy Spikers team consisted of Juniors Mason Buegler, Levi Hopp, Mitchell Hopp, Hunter Larson, Owen Castleman, and Senior Dirk Haynes.
The winner of the 2025 Volleyball Intramurals tournament is the Little Lads.

Freshman Carter Bronstad, Junior Braylon Hoel, Senior Avarey Sellner, Junior Genesis Rabe, Senior Ryan Rathman, and Sophomores Conlin McAlpine and Kingston Haimes (Abby Willaert)
