On May 14th, in the Jefferson Parking lot, the vehicle fair was held this year. Kids running around, truck horns blaring, and food vendors are just some of the things that you can expect to see attending this event. There were a number of vehicles attending the event, from a school bus to an ambulance, and with plenty of food and snack choices, this was a great way to spend a warm afternoon.

Betty Uehling was one of the coordinators of the event. “We probably have close to 40 vehicles today,” she said. “I didn’t realize ROC was going to bring like twelve vehicles, it’s so cool.” ROC is a local club of truck enthusiasts, known for their participation in local events and customization shops.
“Last year, it was pouring rain,” Betty said. “But even in the rain, we probably had almost 200 people here last year. It’s a lot of fun. How often can kids go and sit behind the wheel of a fire truck or a semi?”
Some of the vehicles at the fair included semi trucks, a school bus, police and fire trucks, and an ambulance. The kids were allowed into the ambulance, which had its door open. They would show them how some of the equipment worked and let them lie on the gurney.
“The kids love a school bus,” Betty said. “The fire truck is always awesome. The firefighters do an amazing job.”
“We even had one family who said that the child lay on the gurney at the vehicle fair. Kind of saw what it was like, and a few months later, they had a medical emergency, and the child was like, ‘Okay, I’ve already done this, it isn’t this big scary thing. ‘ ”
Lincoln Salazar, an Elementary student at Jefferson in 1st grade, was also at the event. “I had a good time. Honking the horn of the truck was my favorite part,” he said. “It was fun and cool” to be in the ambulance. “It was kind of hot out. It was nice to have the ice cream.”
