TCU breaks New Ulm’s Historic Season

Boys soccer section leader, New Ulm, takes a loss to TCU in a highly anticipated battle on Tuesday night at New Ulm home turf.

On September 23, TCU crushed history by beating the undefeated New Ulm 2-1. The team can no longer achieve its goal of becoming the first undefeated soccer team to go through New Ulm High School.

Lead goal scorer Jackson Ocampo said, “This loss hurts… It’s a combination of being too passive and not being aggressive.” Ocampo also said this passiveness cost them the game, and if the team does not pick it up, the season could end earlier than expected.

Even with this heartbreaking loss, the Eagles still lead the conference and section. If the Eagles had kept winning, it would have been the first undefeated season in school history. Although they are not undefeated, they have broken the record for most wins since 2008, with 11 wins in total.

The Eagles now sit 12-1-2 after going on a rough streak following the tough loss to TCU. The Eagles are tied to Saint Peter and Orono after their loss to TCU. The team’s next game is away against Mankato East on September 29. The Boys are now seeking a section championship to then go to the highly anticipated state tournament, hoping to end the season on a high note.
