On Monday, the 22nd, the hoco coronation was held in the high school gym to crown our new King and Queen, Lauren Schmiesing and Daniel Brownfield. The coronation has always been a well-attended event with the stands full of family, friends, and citizens. The Coronation starts off with the court of 7 senior boys and 7 senior girls taking their seats and the reintroduction of the previous King and Queen. This year, we welcomed back Ramsey Hopp and Cullen Slette.

The friends of the court then do their skits so people can get to know the court better, and also to get everyone laughing and excited. After the skits, the king candidates are introduced while being escorted down the gym. After they are all introduced, the previous king waves the crown over the candidates and crowns the new king. Then the queen candidates are introduced while being escorted, the escorts then hold up a box to whom they escorted; the girl with the purple lid is crowned queen with help from the previous queen and the new king.

The new royalty job is to represent our school during homecoming week; they also travel to our other schools and do their dances, which Queen candidate, Sophier Berger, said was one of her favorite experiences because she remembered how excited she was at the homecoming pep fests when she was younger. She said she loved being on court because she loved visiting younger students, and it was “super cool to be a part of their homecoming experience.”

She also said that while it’s fun, “it’s also kind of bittersweet because it really drove home the fact that I’m a senior, and this will be my last Eagles homecoming ever.”
