Eighth graders Morgan Zimanski and Josie Nelson are the only middle schoolers who earned spots on the New Ulm High School varsity soccer team for the 2025–26 season. Morgan, a forward, returns as a varsity starter after playing last year on varsity as a seventh grader, while Josie, a defender, is returning as a new varsity player.
Both girls have worked hard to earn and deserve this level on the team. Although it can be rewarding, being at a higher level comes with its own set of challenges. Morgan Zimanski said the hardest part is “controlling the field and playing good while dealing with pressure,” and Josie Nelson said, “I feel like when I make a mistake, (the coaches) will be mad.”
