Mr. Briggs 2nd hour class works hard at building sets for the musical

This year at New Ulm High School we are putting on the musical Willy Wonka and with that comes a lot of work. Mr. Briggs’s Basic Ag and Reconstruction classes have been building sets for the musical since the beginning of the year.

Justin Schapekahm and I talked to some of the students in Mr. Briggs’s second hour class about building the sets. The students that we talked to said that it can get hard sometimes, but if we work together it gets easier.

The musical will start the week before Thanksgiving. This gives the classes a deadline, but students have said that they will be more than ready for it.

This past week one of the wheels under the main set broke off, making it impossible to move the sets around. Students spent a considerable amount of time coming up with ideas on how to fix the wheel. In the end, sliders were put under the set allowing it to be slid over the edge of the stage and screwed in a new wheel.

Students have created the basis of all of the sets that are needed to for the musical. Painting these sets and creating decor is all that is left to be done.
