Cutting edge technology makes its way to the CTE center

The CTE center receives two new CNC tables

At the end of April, the CTE center took delivery of two new CNC tables. One of the tables is used for wood the other table is used for cutting metal. The school maintenance staff took some time to revamp the CTE center to make them fit.  Mr. Gusso and Mr. Nelson then took a day off from teaching to go through training to learn how to run the tables. The tables were bought from Lone Star Cutting Solutions, so the salesman came down all the way from Texas to come and teach them. “It was definitely a learning curve to figure it out, but I feel I will get better the more I use it,” Mr.Gusso said.

The school was able to purchase the tables using money from the CTE fundraising. These funds come in the form of grants and donations from various local businesses. “These tables will allow us to make a larger array of projects,” Mr. Nelson said. “They allow us to make complex shapes or cut accurate coupons that we use for welding practice.”

“This table gives me larger freedoms to change the ways I teach my class to try and incorporate the table,” Mr. Gusso said.

Various students are excited about what the future of the CNC tables brings to the CTE center. Senior Ben Alfred said, “When I heard we were getting the CNC tables I was excited but it sucks as a senior because I am hardly gonna get to use it.”

Other underclass students were excited to have a full year of school to be able to use the tables and learn on them. “By the end of my senior year, I should be pretty good at running the tables,” said Junior Adam Mages.

Both teachers and students are excited for what the future holds not only with the CNC tables but other advancements at the CTE center.
