New Ulm boys golf has been practicing indoors, golf balls scattered through the wrestling gym, people putting their gloves on and taking their headcovers off getting ready for practice. With unpredictable Minnesota weather still changing between spring and winter weather, the New Ulm High School boys golf team is finding creative ways to prepare for the season. The team gathered for an indoor practice at the New Ulm High School, an effort to sharpen their skills despite snow/rain-covered fairways and freezing temperatures.
“I’d like to be out there on the course, but the weather’s not cooperating,” Mason Buegler said. “Although indoors isn’t as fun as being able to hit on a golf course, we are still able to work on putting, chipping, and full swings.”

The practice session focused on the 3 main things, players rotating between putting greens, short-game drills, and full-swing exercises using launch monitors. It’s not the best environment for golf, but the team makes the best of it.
“The simulators are great for our full swings, but today we’re really focused on our yardages from 100 yards and in,” senior Brecken Neuman said.
As the team moves closer to the first official meet, there’s some confidence. Even though the beginning of the year brings many challenges, the golfers are determined to hit the course once the snow clears. “It’s all about staying sharp, no matter where we’re practicing,” Buegler added.
We will continue practicing indoors until conditions improve, hoping to get outside and be free from the cold, and play under the sun sometime next week.
