On Monday, March 3, student council put on an exciting intramural basketball competition consisting of 12 different teams at New Ulm High School. The gym was filled with energy as teams of all different skill levels battled not only for the win but also for bragging rights. There were four courts with two teams at each. The games started at 8 p.m. and went tell about 9 p.m.

Two teams stood out early on in the matchup team Chou Ling and team Hoops Hooligans. These teams were going back and forth until finally, team Chou Ling scored and pulled ahead of the game, leaving the hooligans behind. “Picking the team name was easy. We are just a bunch of hooligans trying to have fun and make some hoops,” Dirk Haynes, said. Although bout squads played hard and left it all on the court team, Chou Ling came out on top.

There was strong defense from both teams and many people diving for loose balls. With about ten minutes left, team Chou Ling was ahead 12-4, meaning the hooligans had to step their game up. Which they did when Brody Nordby hit a three-pointer to make the score 12-7. Things escalated quickly from that point on, with both teams bringing more intensity. The two teams played together well between communicating and being able to get open for a shot. Hooligans came back and only lost by six points “This game gave us confidence that we can win the other two games because this is one of the hardest teams in the bracket,” Brody Nordby said. Team Chou Ling countered with sharp shooting and teamwork.
In the beginning, Mr. Manns was asked who will win, and he said anyone but the wrestlers.
