The New Ulm boys hockey team is graduating 14 seniors. They lose nine forwards, one defenseman, two goalies, and two team managers. On a good note for the 2025-2026 season, the Eagles return their top three scorers in Junior Brody Nordby, and Sophomores Hunter Larson and Carson Uecker. The Eagles also return four varsity defensemen from last year.

Senior captain Brecken Neuman is one of the many forwards leaving due to graduation. Neuman has been on Varsity for three years and has made a big impact on the Eagles. “The team lost lots of seniors and leadership but I believe the lower classmen will be able to step up and be just fine. The main issue surrounding the team will be goaltender experience,” Neuman said.

Senior Talan Helget is also one of the forwards leaving from the Eagles. Helget has been on Varsity for three years but had a rough patch in his high school career. Helget was a defenseman sophomore year. Going into his junior year Helget tore his Meniscus and had to have it removed before returning back to the lineup in late Feb. When Helget returned to the lineup, he transitioned to forward. In Helget’s senior year, he dealt with shoulder pain all year but played through it. “Injuries suck but they teach you patience and make you appreciate the game even more,” Helget said.

Sophomore Hunter Larson is a key part returning to the Eagles. Larson led the team in points this year in his first year of varsity hockey. Larson moved up from a very good Bantam A team that made a run and got very close to state. Larson averaged almost three points per game on that team. Larson is one of the many sophomores returning to a young Eagles team. “We will be a young hockey team but there are a lot of skilled underclassmen and if they can step up and fill some of the spots of the players we lost we should be just fine for next year,” Larson said.
