In the hockey game on December 7, the boy’s hockey team lost to Fergus Falls 7-2. In the first period, the boys looked excellent keeping the game at 1-1 going into the second period. Eagles winger Brody Nordby scored on a power play.
But FergusĀ Falls #21 Adam Kennedy had tied the game up. The game had a lot of chippy plays and the teams looked like they hated each other throughout the game. At the start of the second period, the boys had a renewed spirit and energy and looked hungry to score goals and bring it to Fergus Falls.
The Eagles looked like they were starting to fire up skating harder to get the puck. But as the second period continued, they might have been trying too hard to get the puck and score goals. Team play also appeared to take a back seat to individual play.
To add to this Fergus Fall #26 Jack Welde had scored.
Senior captain Brody Wenner said, “I think we need a big play, to keep the momentum from it, and to carry it into the third.”
Fergus had other ideas for the New Ulm Eagles. Fergus Falls put in one more goal in the second period. It came off a power play that Talan Helget got from a charging penalty. Goalie Jayden Grunst couldn’t see the puck from everyone crowding the net. It went right past him, and he never even saw it.
A little bit into the third period the boys had kept the game at 2-1 and kept it there for quite some time. But Fergus Falls wouldn’t let that happen because they had scored two more goals coming from #21 Adam Kennedy and #3 Aiden Schake on an empty net goal to make the game 4-2.
But in the end, Fergus Falls scored 4 goals to the Eagles 2 goals.
Senior Ian Brudelie said: “I don’t think that we had played our best game this year and I think we started running out of energy towards the end.”
This is what the Eagles coach Ryan Neuman said: “This wasn’t our best game but they were the better team tonight and we just couldn’t put the puck in the back of the net tonight. That was the main difference.”
