With the clatter of connect-four pieces, gentle placement of magic cards, and hearty laughter of students, the NUHS Game Club in room 114 is truly a lively place to be every Tuesday from 3 to 5:30 p.m. for the students of NUHS. Game Club has given people of all grades and groups a way to connect with one another through board, card, and video games of various types.
The game club, started by Science Nelson in 2015 and running nearly a decade strong, has grown to be an integral cornerstone of club life at NUHS. One of the reasons it seems to come back year after year is its positive impact on students, making them return each year. One of the students who attends every week like clockwork is senior Dawson Mhor, whose favorite game to play at game club is Magic the Gathering.
“Game Club means to me people getting together, playing games, and having a fun, relaxing time,” said Mhor, who has been in Game Club since his freshman year. “It’s people becoming buddies, showing companionship, sportsmanship, and not cheating.” With such a positive environment, making friends and enjoying yourself is almost a given.
