Tension filled the air as the puck dropped in a big matchup between the Eagles and the Wildcats, both desperate to break losing streaks. The Eagles were ready to rebound from a big 8-0 defeat to Dodge County, while the Wildcats were looking for redemption after back-to-back losses to Mankato East (5-0) and Hutchinson (6-1).

The Eagles showed courage after falling behind 2-0 early against Waconia. They scored a goal late in the first half, but Waconia quickly responded to maintain their lead. The second half started with New Ulm trailing 3-1, but the Eagles slowly began an impressive comeback, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead. Waconia tied the game on a power play, but they were called for a penalty shortly after. As a result of the penalty, the Eagles had the power play and were able to  score the winning goal, securing a close 5-4 victory.

“We worked really well together, and we all stayed in good spirits during the game,” senior Jocelyn Pettersen said. With 12 years of experience in New Ulm hockey programs, Jocelyn has built good relationships with her teammates. Looking ahead, she shared her enthusiasm for the season: “I’m excited to see how we all improve and how the chemistry continues to grow.”
