The NUHS Carpentry class has been touring and learning about building sheds and reading blueprints. Teacher Mr. Nate Gusso has led the class to the places they’ve toured, being that he worked at Puhlman Lumber before becoming a teacher.
“We like to connect the students to the community members,” Gusso said. “It shows the real-life situations of what we are learning in class.”
The kids learn how to give quotes for the prices that the building will cost. “The tours have helped a lot and let us see the real world,” senior Cody Serbus said.
The class visited Design Home, Puhlman Lumber, and will go to Construct Tomorrow. The class has also been working on a 7×7 shed for the elementary school’s playground equipment. The class will also build a 12×10 shed for a citizen who would like one built.
“I have learned a lot since I started at Design,” said Senior Ian Brudelie. “I never knew how much material went in and out and how much time was spent designing each building.” Ian has been interning at Design home during the first semester of the year.
