Building a solid foundation in art

Art foundations is the basic level of art open to all NUHS students which has to be taken before any other art classes here at NUHS.

Art Foundations students at NUHS are in the art room while the new art teacher, Mr. Santiago, walks around observing and giving feedback to his students while they work on their charcoal grid drawings.

Charcoal grid drawings use a base image to recreate an image chosen by the student as a grid drawing matching the exact details and showing a variety of shades.

Many students felt challenged while doing their grid drawings, but to many, it was worth their time and effort.

Santiago said that he and Mrs. Page have been working on revising the projects because they felt that they were too easy.

“So we’re starting off with kind of borrowing from older projects that did well for some of the higher classes and see how they work here, and then we can tweak and manipulate as needed.”

Santiago said he would like to see a different variation of projects and thinks many students would like that as well.
