Foods Class tries Meals Ready to Eat

Ms. Schneider’s Basic Foods had the opportunity to try different MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) with Sgt. Sam Bryo. Sgt. Byro explained how and why the military would use these while students got to try everything from Gatorade to pudding to Asian Beef.

Many of the foods started as a powder which had to be mixed with water to get the food or drink. Others came cooked (but cold) and were warmed up by putting them in a bag of warm water.

Junior foods student Maddy Wellmann said, “It definitely wasn’t the best. It certainly wouldn’t be my first choice for a meal, but if it was all I had and starving, I would eat it.”

MREs show just how much these soldiers really sacrifice for us.
