This past Monday was senior night for the boys varsity basketball. All of the senior boys, along with the team managers get recognized for being seniors. But that did not stop them from showing out on the court. The boys looked to get a win over a conference rival, the Worthington Trojans.
Leading the team was senior Colton Benson, who was only 5 points away from hitting a giant milestone of 2,000 points. He looked to hit this milestone in this game, which he did very quickly into the first half. Benson’s first points of the night came from a three-pointer from the corner. Not long after, Benson hit a three-pointer at the top of the key with 13 minutes left in the first half. With this shot, Benson surpassed 2,000 career points, a very impressive feat for any high school player.
“It didn’t really matter to me how I passed 2,000,” Benson said. “I just wanted it to be here at home so everyone could celebrate with me.”
As the final buzzer sounded, the Eagles had won 104-74 over the Trojans, their second win against them this season. The team celebrated the win along with Benson’s milestone, and the team had nothing but praise for Benson.
“Colton is a great player and we are all happy for him,” said Ayden Jensen, a senior teammate of Benson.
The Eagles improved to 16-6 on the season after this win.
