Working Hard

Working is a necessity for any person who wants to earn money. At some point in their life, everyone has a job, no matter if the job is simply a title (something like being a modern royal), or having to do physical work (like construction). According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, 22.3 percent of high school students were employed in 2014. Reasons for a high school student working can include helping out the family finances, saving for college, exploring future career options, or just wanting spending money.

I sent out a survey to many New Ulm High School students, and asked them where they work. The biggest employer of NUHS students is Hy-Vee, with 13.3 percent of students who answered the survey saying they worked there. Coming in second is Oak Hills Living Center, employing 10.4 percent of NUHS students. 8.1 percent of students said they did not have a job. Some other bigger employers of students are Happy Joes and the City of New Ulm.
