Advanced Health Class at Drug Court

On Monday May 8, Mrs. Longtin’s Advanced Health class along with Mr. Bergmann went to Drug Court at the Brown County Courthouse. Every Monday there is a session of drug court, which is an alternative for people who commit drug crimes, so they don’t have to go to prison. Before Drug Court started Les Schultz, Director at the Probation Department, did a quick run through of what was going to happen. With each person the judge goes over how they are doing with coping, and trying to find their way after their addiction. The way Drug Court works is that each of the clients have to go through an intensive program where they have to be monitored by the probation officers, and they check in with a judge every week. They also have treatment that they have to go to, and are put on house arrest for the first bit, but are still allowed to work. One of the key things that was emphasized throughout out time there was that communication is key. Drug Court is open to the public every Monday starting at 12:30.
