Girls Softball winning Streak Begins
Girls softball began their season hosting Blue Earth in their first big south conference game. The game started with sophomore Ashlyn Donner pitching the first two innings and striking out four players with no walks allowed. Junior Mariah Piotter pitched next, retiring all but one of Blue Earth’s players, and our favorite basketball star Meleah Reinhart closed the game with four strike outs and three walks in the final innings. The game was fun to watch as the eagles showed their fans what they were capable of doing. The Eagles started off with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after a two-run double into left field by Camryn Schiro. The Eagles brought it on in the second inning with nine runs to lead 11-0, led by Carli Botten’s two-run double to left. The Eagle press team caught up with senior Madison Suess who plays first base. “We played together as a team and we were able to work together to win the game. I feel confident in our team and we will do great playing together in the future. My goal for the team is to make it to the state tournament and I strongly believe we have the capability of doing it,” Suess said.
In other softball action, The Eagles hosted Marshal on Thursday, April 14th . The Eagles started the game with Mariah Piotter’s leadoff single, after which she hit the mound to retire six in the first inning. Meleah Reinhart then picked up from there, pitching two hitless innings. Ashyln Donner pitched the last five innings to close the game for the eagles. The Eagles worked hard with 12 hits. Kaila Brudelie, Madison Suess, Joey Batt and Reinhart each had two hits for the Eagles. The team scored one run in the bottom of the first when Camryn Schiro drove in Brudelie. New Ulm scored three more runs in the second inning with Kayla Brandes, Suess and Batt leading the way.
