From hockey socks to cozy mittens

Local hockey fan takes old hockey socks and turns them into cozy mittens for sale.

Thia Achman wore a pair of mittens in class one day that caught the attention of the teacher, who asked about them. Another student chimed in that she had given them to her and that they were handcrafted by a local hockey fan. And so this story was born.

These mittens are very warm and are made from old hockey socks, in the school colors of purple, black, and white.

“They are very stylish and keep my hands very cozy and warm and my very awesome best friend gave me them,” Thia said. She wears them often at school, the rink, shoveling, having snow fights, and even stacking wood!

Many fans have gotten these mittens as gifts. The trend started back in 2014 when a local lady named Sue Lomax turned her sewing skills into a creative project: making mittens from old hockey socks. It’s a very good way for students, adults, and any fans really to show their Eagle pride and support the Eagles.

“Those gloves are so slay,” Bryer Hoffmann said after his game, seeing all the fans wearing them.

Being handcrafted, the mittens are a little tricky to come by, but other color options could be available depending on the team. There have been many seen at the rink with purple, white, and gray mixtures all with the same soft inside in them.

With playoffs coming and state coming up it could be a great idea to order some for yourself or family and friends!
