The American Flag
The American Flag is an important and powerful symbol for many Americans. With the new high school out where the wind is prominent, the main flag outside takes quite a beating. Wind speeds can reach 40 mph and higher, which makes it difficult to keep the flag in mint condition. So far, the High School is on its second flag and will be getting a third one soon. I interviewed the superintendent of ISD 88, Jeff Bertrang, and got some good insight about the flag outside the high school. He said that the flag the school is currently using is made of nylon and is supposed to hold up against the relentless wind. Each flag costs about $75.00 and should last 2-3 months before needing to be replaced. The High School is allowed to get whatever material of flag they please as there are no restrictions on flag material. The weather is unforgiving and unpredictable and that’s why it has been difficult to keep the flag unscathed.
