Advanced Art: Are You Interested?
Many students attending New Ulm High School have taken some kind of art class, but some students may want to try new things or explore what types of things they can do artistically. If you are interested in taking that step to learn new things that might not be taught in other art classes, you should look into signing up for Advanced Art.
In Advanced Art the students have freedom with what they can make for assigned projects. Mr. Janke Assigns new projects every two weeks, and the students can create the project with any medium they chose. This helps the students find what they like to work with and what they are good at working with. This way the students teach themselves new techniques.
When I interviewed Mr. Janke I learned a few things about how the class came about, his thoughts, and possible changes that could be made to improve the class. The class started because some students either wanted to take a class again, like Advanced Pottery or Drawing and Painting but couldn’t. Mr. Janke’s solution to this problem was to make a class that let students create with the materials that they preferred to use. The class is meant to be an independent study for students to take known skills and apply them to projects. Mr. Janke plans on making changes to the class as it goes on. These changes may include a different number of assigned projects and possibly going to help younger kids in elementary school with their art skills. For those of you who decide to take this class, you will explore your personal skills and come up with ideas for projects.
These are some of the projects made by students taking Advanced Art.
