New Ulm Speech Team

The New Ulm Speech Team has begun their season on a strong note. On Saturday, the team placed fourth at the Mankato East Fiesta tournament. For those who don’t know how speech works, basically there are 12 categories to compete in: Creative Expression, Discussion, Drama Interpretation, Duos, Extemporaneous Reading, Great Speeches, Humorous Interpretation, Informative Speaking, Original Oratory, Poetry Reading, Prose Reading, and Storytelling. Even though everyone within the category could be competing against each other, there usually is different awards for Varsity and Novice (first years). Overall, we had 13 people receive awards: April Atzenhoefer (1st place – storytelling), Nick Schultz (1st place – humorous), Emma Maudal (2nd place – humorous), Megan Hietala (4th place – humorous), Rachel Dauer (4th place – storytelling), Sicily Trullinger and Anna Uehling (5th place – duo), Mackenzie Larson (red ribbon – prose), Carson Giefer and Katelyn Sarkar (1st place – novice duo), Sara Guymon (1st place – novice prose), Fadhil Orbandi (2nd place – novice humorous), and Abigail Allen (2nd place – novice creative expression). The team is very excited to keep competing. The next speech meet is Saturday, March 11 in Saint Peter.
