Baseball players wrap up playing catch on the first day of practice.

Baseball arms week

Baseball started March 13 with arms week.

No baseball bats and no pitching mounds in the first week of baseball in Minnesota. The first week of baseball is called Arms Week and it is used to get your body and arm into season shape. This week helps the coaches know what kind of players they will have that year and also helps avoid injuries.

“Arms week is one of the most boring weeks of the season but I know it helps in the long run,” junior Luke Suess said. “Coach Briggs makes it fun though with the different drills we do and just playing baseball with your friends again is always fun.”

The most common injuries in Baseball are rotator cuff and elbow injuries and without this week there would be way more injuries than there are now. During the first week and twice a week in the mornings the rest of the season they lift which also helps with not having injuries. Lifting lowers the chance of injury by 37 percent, which could mean the difference between playing the whole season and being hurt for some of the season.

“We lift a lot during the baseball season and being with your friends makes it fun. It can get boring because of how much we do it but we know at the end of the day it is making us better,” Junior Ethan Thompson said. “It also makes us a better team and brings us closer together because we are struggling together,” he added.
