Wheeling into acting

Lights, Camera, Action. Although no camera is involved, you will often see lights and action taking place in the theater, something Nick Vigil can attest to.
Nick Vigil, a Junior at New Ulm High School, is taking on his newest role for the upcoming spring play at NUHS.
Nick started acting when he was twelve in the show “Music Man Jr.” Since then, he has taken on the challenge of several roles including Gomez in the new musical comedy “The Addams Family Musical” and Hugo in “Bye Bye Birdie.” Nick plans on continuing acting throughout his high school career.
In Addams Family, “It was a new experience coming from almost not appearing on stage much in a show to almost being on the entire show, but it was so super fun to learn new music and an accent to go with it,” Vigil said.
Currently he is in the NUHS spring play “The Man Who Came to Dinner.” In this show Vigil plays Sheridan Whiteside, a radio host who visits a family but breaks his hip while there where he has to stay until healed. “This role is very hard. It differs a lot from a musical because there are no breaks and I am on stage all the time. To add to this challenge I am confined to a wheelchair for almost the entirety of the show,” Nick said.
You can see the play “The Man Who Came to Dinner” on March 31 at 7 pm and April 1 at 2 pm.
The play this year is also the first student-directed show at NUHS. “It’s great – it’s nice to have more direction and not have to try and make things up myself. Instead, I have things sort of given to me to do, yeah that’s it,” Nick said.
