Hopeful for hoops

The NUHS girl's basketball team is working harder than ever before to come into this season with a bang!

Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Mrs. Rogers is getting the team ready for a rowdy season full of optimism and aspirations.

“I hope that everybody has a fabulously fun time… I hope that everybody at the end of the year looks back and says “wow we’re a lot better than we were at the beginning of the year.”

Mrs. Rogers is a teacher that works in the math department, and this year will be her second year coaching the girl’s varsity basketball team.

“Some day some of these athletes will make very good coaches themselves,” Rogers said. Coach Rogers has a goal to inspire these young athletes to become better players and people while doing so.

Last season the girl’s basketball team ended with a record of thirteen wins and fourteen losses. This year they are pushing themselves harder to get better and get farther in their conference.

“We started practices last week; mornings and afternoons… we are working very hard physically in the gym and in the weight room.” Rogers has been pushing the girls very hard to get prepared for the season and to represent NUHS.

The girl’s basketball team has some scrimmages coming up to further prepare them for the fast and upcoming season, which involves some pretty intense play.

The girls had their first home game of the season, which consisted of some intense cheering from the students. The girls secured the win against Belle Plaine with a 35-point lead, ending 77-44. It is safe to say the team is ready to impress their conference this year with their tough gameplay.
